Mani Khoshravesh grew up in Rasht, in the reed country of Gilan, where the wind, water and birds are loud at dawn. He learned to play inside that noise, on a ney cut from the same reed beds, borrowed from a neighbour who never asked for it back.
In Tehran he spent eight years studying the radif — the classical repertoire of Persian music — with teachers who counted breath before notes. That discipline still shapes everything he plays: patience first, then sound.
He later moved to Europe and spent years performing in small halls, festivals and private rooms, alone or with other musicians, moving freely between classical radif, improvisation and new composition.
Today Mani lives in Paris. He records at home, performs across Europe with his trio, teaches a small number of students in person and online, and still cuts every reed he plays — twelve nodes, five holes, and a month of drying before the first note.
